“Black and white photography erases time from the equation”
Jason Peterson
Black and white photography is a type of photography that captures images in shades of gray, rather than in color. It is also known as monochrome photography. This type of photography relies on the tones and textures of the subject matter to create contrast and interest, rather than the colors of the scene. It is often used to create a sense of timelessness, and nostalgia, or to emphasize the graphic qualities of the image.
Black and white photography can be achieved by shooting with a black-and-white film, or by converting a color image to black-and-white using editing software. When converting a color image to black and white, the photographer can adjust the brightness and contrast of the different colors in the image to control the final look of the black and white image. This allows the photographer to emphasize certain features or to create a specific mood in the image.
Many photographers prefer black-and-white photography because it allows us to focus on the composition, lighting, and textures of the scene, rather than the colors. It can also convey a sense of timelessness and the classic look of photographs from the past.
